Comparison of new and vintage Fender amplifier knobs

(Sorry about the quality; I didn't own a digital camera at the time, so I did this with a scanner)

Okay... I'm not obsessive...really... but someone asked me about this.  The knob on the left is from a Fender Deluxe Reverb RI, which is representative of currently available new skirted knobs.  The knob on the right is from a '64 Bassman head.  Note that while essentially similar, there are some differences in the numbers.  The numbers on the older knob are thicker and slightly different.  The biggest differences are in the "8" and "3".  In addition, looking from the side, the vintage knob is not quite as tall as the new knob.  Another difference is the way the skirt is molded on the bottom; the newer knobs ride on the hex nut, preventing the knob from scoring the faceplate.  Oh, and the older knobs had metal sleeve inserts and the newer ones are all plastic.

Admittedly, this is of no real consequence unless one were restoring a 60's era blackface amp and wanted to keep it looking original.

And that's all I have to say about that.
